Could Tammy Duckworth Be Joe Biden’s VP?

If you have been following the 2020 presidential race, you probably are aware that Biden has yet to announce his choice for Vice President. However, we do have some clues as to who it could be, and just recently, there is a rumor that he might pick Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois.

Who is Senator Duckworth? You might think she is just another Democratic Senator, but she has a powerful story and background in service. A United States Army Veteran, Duckworth lost both of her legs in a helicopter incident while being deployed in Iraq (2004). She then went on to serve as President Obama’s assistant secretary in the Department of Veterans Affairs. Along her path to prominence, Duckworth made history as the first physically disabled Woman to ever serve on the U.S. House of Representatives. Plus, she is only one of three Asian-American females to serve on the Senate.

However, it is not a guarantee that he will pick her to be his Vice President. Duckworth has never ran for president before and is not particularly well known. If Biden hopes to win the election, he needs to be able to garner enthusiasm around his VP nominee.

Other possible candidates include Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Stacey Abrams (Georgia), Val Demings (Florida), and Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan). Klobuchar was a candidate, but she dropped out in hopes that Biden would consider picking a woman of color to be the nominee.

Happy 4th of July, everyone! Stay tuned for more to come.
